Today’s treasurer occupies a unique position at the heart of business operations and strategy. As guardians of company cash and finances, treasurers have always been influential in helping to achieve business goals. But this role has expanded to mean even greater responsibility and a seat at the table in strategic decisions. Managing these pressures can be challenging, requiring both long-term planning and the flexibility to adapt as circumstances change, but it also creates huge opportunity: to have bigger impact and the ability to help shape the company’s future.
In the present complex political, economic, and regulatory environment, the importance of treasurers and finance directors has intensified further. Digital disruption, the continued liberalisation of China’s economy, rising tensions between the US and North Korea, uncertainty surrounding post-Brexit Europe, and the threat of cyber attack, are just some of the global developments affecting multinational companies in Asia.
Treasury and finance teams must therefore understand the bigger picture and be agile, able to identify and mitigate emerging risks and to maintain clear visibility of cash across various currencies, banks and entities at all times. Strong leadership on these matters, along with dedication to building relationships across non-finance teams and with the board, will ensure that the treasurer’s role as a trusted strategic adviser to the business only continues to grow.
The Financial Times and Deutsche Bank are delighted to be hosting the third annual Global Treasury Leadership Retreat Series, which covers Asia, the US and Europe. Our shared goal is to build an exclusive, international community of senior treasurers and discuss the unique challenges and opportunities they face today. Featuring expert keynote speakers, interactive group debate and networking in a private, informal setting, this special retreat in Hong Kong is designed to give treasurers from across Asia valuable insight into the developments shaping the corporate world and the chance to engage with peers from different sectors in practical action-focused discussion.
