Sustainable finance has exploded in the past few years. Corporate ESG ratings are now being seen by investors as synonymous with reduced risk and higher returns. ESG scores are being used to assess a firm’s creditworthiness and its desirability as a place to work, and loans and bonds linked to sustainability performance are skyrocketing. The ESG marketplace has boomed and is now facing heightened scrutiny –– from media, activists and regulators. It's still the Wild West, with a lack of common definitions and standards. Regulation is forthcoming.
