Last year, the Japan Corporate Governance Code was updated with strengthened language around the importance of companies to take account of sustainability issues, particularly related to social and environmental matters. The Code also specifically refers to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the FSB’s Taskforce for Climate related Financial Disclosures in creating mid-long term value creation. To what extent is this being implemented and communicated by companies and how have the global investment community responded?
