System-supported user rights management has been on the agenda for 20-25 years. First as a way to streamline the IT department's work and later as a compliance tool. Yet it is only in recent years that user rights management has really come up to CxO level and has got its very own agenda, among other things accelerated by GDRP and numerous Cyber attacks.
As a citizen, it is easy to understand the need to protect access to one's own data in the public systems, and that NemID / MitID is a fantastic method for uniquely authenticating oneself. But the same is true in the company. There are the same high requirements for data protection, including personal data, and the same high requirements for being able to uniquely identify a natural person.
Nevertheless, we see time and time again that there is no single authoritative source for identities in companies, or that the processes around user rights management have not been fully put in place. The reason is probably that user rights management is a really difficult discipline, because it is not only an IT discipline, but also involves the whole business and thus all the old ingrained habits that are so difficult to get rid of.
