Two major pension reforms that will dramatically change the French pensions landscape are scheduled for 2019:
• The government is preparing a systemic reform covering all mandatory pension plans (the basic social security plan and the complementary plan, ARRCO-AGIRC) which is expected to be discussed before parliament in 2019. This reform would replace the 42 different arrangements that currently exist with a single universal pension scheme.
• A new law, “loi PACTE”, was passed in April 2019 and is targeted for implementation from 1 January 2020. This law includes a reform of supplementary retirement savings arrangements and will significantly change the framework for company pension plans.
