With the deadline for compliance looming, this topical seminar will provide guidance to all in how to ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Background:
Data protection affects us all; not only in business but in our personal lives too. It has been a long journey since the original data protection legislation was introduced in 1986.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) brings in a new chapter that should be evolutionary, not revolutionary. However, with compliance focus being on anti-money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism and bribery, data protection has become the poor cousin of the compliance world and, for many, the upcoming changes will only be revolutionary.
Importantly, businesses have until May 2018 to ensure compliance with the GDPR.
Learning Outcomes:
This session will provide members with learning in the following key areas:
Explore the history behind and important changes enacted by the GDPR
Greater understanding of the new enforcement powers
Consider the key steps required to ensure compliance
Awareness of the importance of cyber security and its role in compliance
Speakers for 2017
Peter Cannell,
Advocate & Chartered Secretary, Quinn Legal
