In the year 2000, China launched Going Global, a strategy to support its domestic firms to invest beyond the country’s borders. By 2009, outbound investments by Chinese companies accounted for around 10% of outbound FDI and today that figure is higher than 17% with Chinese companies holding 11% of all FDI assets globally.
To put that into context, there are 10,000 Chinese firms operating in Africa and the country invested US$79 billion in mainland European countries in 2017 – and that’s only the start of the story.
In recent years, Chinese investors have also snapped up a number of iconic brands, including Volvo, GE Appliances, Gieves & Hawkes, Cerruti 1881 and Weetabix.
Looking at the dynamic consumer tech sector, the likes of Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent have all made significant gains across international markets to become household names. Now many more want to follow in their footsteps and support China’s goals in technology transfer.
Going Global has also spurred the presence of such western megabrands as Airbnb, Coca-Cola, LinkedIn and Tesla in China. All these brands have capitalised on the country’s infrastructure development, resource availability, productivity, workforce skills and the development of the business value chain, to bring their solutions to this new market.
The Private Equity and Venture Capital Summit China is designed to support these ambitions while putting new investors in front of screened opportunities in AI, blockchain, hi-tech, med-tech, health information systems, pharma and medical device ventures.
The primary focus of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Summit in China is to offer a deal flow platform, featuring these different sources of capital in the region, and prequalified global innovative investment opportunities.
Building on successful PEVC Summits across the Middle East, PEVC China creates growth opportunities by bringing together investors, entrepreneurs, thought leaders and ideas, in an informed and exclusive environment: The right people, the right place, at the right time.
