Recent Building Safety and Economic Crime prevention legislation is causing some concern to practitioners, especially in relation to the niceties of the legislation and the potential liabilities that the new laws create.
In this webinar, chaired by Marsh, Sarah McNally, partner at Herbert Smith Freehills will look at the implications of the Building Safety Act 2022 for developers and owners of residential buildings including:
• The different provisions applicable to "Higher Risk" buildings
• The new roles of "Dutyholder" and "Accountable Person" and their responsibilities
• New / extended causes of action - under Building Act 1984 and Defective Premises Act 1972
• Extensions to limitation periods (including retrospectively)
• New regime of Remediation Orders, Remediation Contribution Orders, Building Liability Orders and limits on service charge
Sarah McNally will be followed by Andrew Butler KC of Tanfield Chambers who will look at some of the practicalities for practitioners when dealing with high-rise transactions and how to mitigate their risk.
Additionally, Michelle Garlick, partner and MLRO of Weightmans LLP will discuss The Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Act 2022, which introduced a Register of Overseas Entities requiring foreign property owners to register themselves with Companies House with the aim of helping prevent money laundering.

• The verification process and the verification agent
• Practical implications for the legal profession
• The potential risks and processes for mitigating those risks
