In an era of growing cyber threats and increasingly stringent regulations, cybersecurity can no longer be considered a mere technical issue, but must become an integral part of corporate governance systems. Following the initiatives of the American SEC, in Europe the NIS 2 Directive and other regulations have imposed direct responsibility for cyber risk management on corporate management, making an evolution in corporate governance models necessary.
Integrating cybersecurity into governance means:
• Define clear responsibilities for directors and managers, aligning cyber risk management with corporate strategies;
• Adopt a proactive approach, with periodic briefings, incident response and exercise plans and continuous board training;
• Ensure transparency towards stakeholders, demonstrating that digital risks are managed with the same attention as financial and reputational risks.
Companies that incorporate cybersecurity into their governance will not only reduce the risk of breaches with significant economic impacts, but will also improve operational resilience and the trust of investors, customers and regulators. In an increasingly interconnected world, protecting data and systems is no longer a choice, but a duty of good governance.
On the occasion of this event, a panel of experts - composed of lawyers, business managers, cybersecurity professionals, will discuss, with particular reference to the Energy sector, the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and the obligations introduced by the regulations. The discussion will delve into how existing governance models must evolve to respond to new regulatory challenges, with particular attention to the role of corporate management in cyber risk management.
