The Euromoney/ECBC Global Covered Bond Congress returns to Barcelona on Thursday 14 September 2017. Now in its 15th year, this is the largest meeting of the global covered bond community with 1,100 investors, issuers, regulators and intermediaries attending. In 2016 they came from 33 countries, which reflects the market’s ongoing growth in new countries.

This event is instrumental in the dialogue between the market and its regulators, in the education of investors and in the debates which shape the future of the market. In Barcelona, as in previous years we will discuss the key topics, including

- The effect of QE. Whether the ECB’s buying programme is ongoing or not next September it will have left a lasting impression on the market. How will the market adapt to the post-purchase programme environment? Back to business as usual or will there be permanent changes?

- The Covered Bond Directive. It looks inevitable that the European Commission will push ahead with some form of legislation, but what form will it take, what are the potential benefits and risks that it entails for our market? and for the finding of mortgages generally?

- Is credit back? Over recent conferences, and following price behaviour in the market, discussions have increasingly been of a ‘rates market’ nature despite the backdrop of ongoing credit problems in much of Europe. Is it time for the market to re-evaluate credit risk?

- Globalisation. Every year this conference sees participants from new jurisdictions. But with the Basle committee likely to recognise the product finally and precedents now established in most regions are we going to see a new wave of countries coming on-line? And what will the implications be?
