2023 has become a period of slow restoration of genuine activity in the M&A market, when transactions for the exit of foreign partners from Russian business, while remaining in trend, fade into the background, giving way to classic M&A transactions between local players. In 2023, there were fewer transactions, including large ones; along with the localization of the market, there was a decrease in the average bill in M&A; moreover, settlements for transactions are increasingly carried out in rubles, and their dollar equivalent has decreased significantly with the depreciation of the local currency.

The Mergers.ru portal noted 453 transactions for 2023 (including transactions at the stage of negotiations and execution) - this is 36% less than the results of the previous year, when there was a massive exodus of foreign companies from the country (616 transactions). At the same time, the market volume decreased proportionally - by 35% - from $52.5 billion to $38.8 billion. The average transaction price in 2023 was $179.6 million (in 2022 - $185.8 million).
