Data Reporter

The data reporter is charged with providing readers with critical research that helps their businesses. Our Top 25 Lists are a signature feature and, under the direction of the data reporter, should be supplemented by charts, graphs, stories, etc., to help illustrate what the numbers mean. The entire ACBJ list database is a resource for editorial content as well as the primary source for digital, electronic and online data products. The data reporter is responsible for maintaining and growing that database, producing Top 25 lists, and assisting with research-based stories and special sections.
Skills & Experience

Attention to detail and schedules.
Ability to learn new computer systems.
Skilled at data analysis and interpretation.
Experience with Excel and FileMaker Pro preferred

Job Responsibilities

Produce weekly Top 25 Lists.
Produce stories and graphics to explain and magnify trends from the rankings.
Locate and survey all relevant companies of find alternative sources for each Top 25 list in accordance with the editorial calendar.
Create and maintain a database of all companies and sources to be surveyed for every list.
Follow up by telephone, e-mail or other means at least three times to individual companies and organizations that don’t respond to initial list survey, with a minimum of one actual conversation with representative of that company who should be included.
Update and correct all Top 25 Lists for inclusion in the annual Book of Lists. Ensure all BOL deadlines are met.
Take the lead in coming up with themes, ideas and content for data-based cover stories. Participate in editing content, writing headlines and cutlines, and working with the NDD on ideas for layout and photos.
Provide reporters with research assistance on enterprise projects.
We are in the office three days a week.
Extensive computer use required.
