This position pays between $50,000 to $60,000 annually.

Come join the close-knit and collaborative breaking news team at Syracuse.com and The Post-Standard. The team is comprised of energetic and passionate storytellers with a broad range of interests and strengths. As a breaking news reporter, you’ll work with this staff to build the skills you need for a career in journalism. You will report on a wide range of high-interest topics -- including crime, public safety and accountability -- for a team at the heart of our newsroom. We’ll help you write with grace, gather high-impact information and advocate for readers. If you want to be great, start here.

Qualified candidates should have:

A bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or related field required
A minimum of one year in journalism with a proven ability in reporting and writing required.
The ability to work quickly, but with accuracy and good news judgment
Ability to develop sources
Good understanding of using social media for research and to engage readers
Digital storytelling skills and open mind to trying new approaches
Relentless curiosity and a good sense of humor
Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including some nights and weekends

This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.
