What we’re looking for
This is an excellent opportunity to forge your career covering the economically and politically influential sector of global energy and commodities. You will apply and develop your skills across daily news reporting, market analysis, features and editorials in this fast-paced environment with the highest standards of journalistic independence and integrity; and there are opportunities to travel and present papers at industry conferences and lead webinar sessions.
Argus is seeking a market reporter to join the Freight team in the US, which covers the dry bulk, tanker, and LPG markets. As a member of this team, you will become familiar with all of these markets and an expert in one or more of them, focusing primarily on the dry bulk market.
You will cover ocean-going transportation rates for commodities such as grains, coal, petroleum coke, and iron ore through daily price assessments, writing interesting, analytical market commentaries, news coverage and in-depth analysis to appear online and in the daily Argus Dry Freight, Argus Tanker Freight, and Argus Gas Freight reports. You will also be responsible for maintaining and expanding the contact base and attending conferences.
The global freight market is in a state of constant change in its position at the centre of international trade, geopolitics and environmental regulation. This represents an exciting opportunity to join the team and cover high-profile news on changes that can reshape the market and impact on the wider crude, oil products and dry bulk commodity markets.
You will work in tandem with other reporters and editors who will provide training and support to develop in-depth knowledge of the markets.
What will you be doing?
Monitor and assess markets to produce daily price assessments, market commentaries, news, analysis and reports
Curate data and maintain and analyse existing data series to inform coverage and develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis
Develop an understanding of relevant commodity markets, working with other Argus teams to produce joint content.
Regular meetings and daily communication with key members of the industry, including traders, brokers, and business leaders to build relationships and gather news
Contribute copy to relevant daily and periodical publications and the online news service, and contribute to special content and presentations as required
Work with other departments to help promote the use of Argus price assessments and help develop new pricing tools for the freight market
Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry
