The city of Little Rock and the state of Arkansas have long been haunted by an ugly, segregated past. With ongoing attacks on public education, Medicaid and other strands of the social safety net, those racial disparities are likely to widen. The Arkansas Times' racial equity reporter goes beyond the traditional city beat to explore power differentials that keep opportunity out of reach for the have-nots and threaten to further divide the city. Our journalist also goes beyond the city limits to explore racial disparities in a state wracked by poverty, poor health and low educational attainment.
