Founded in 1962, Artforum delivers informed criticism and analyses of the latest developments in contemporary art and culture, both in print and online.
Artforum seeks a full-time Senior Editor to work primarily for the print department. The ideal candidate has substantial editing experience, is well versed in art cultural discourse, and is deeply immersed in gallery culture.
Reporting to the Managing Editor and collaborating with other print and digital editorial staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining editorial standards and expanding the reach of Artforum’s print edition while also offering occasional editorial assistance to web staff.
Responsibilities:
To research, commission, and edit column and feature material for print (and occasionally web) in consultation with other senior editorial staff
To top edit a portion of the review section
To assist with the development of layouts and the processing of galleys
To provide leadership and guidance to junior editorial staff
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field (or equivalent experience)
At least four years of professional editorial experience
Deep knowledge of contemporary art
Proficiency with requisite software, online publishing, and social media
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Typical wage range: $70K - $80K. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
