You will be reporting to the Editor in Chief of Artnet News, writing timely news stories about museums, galleries, and other core areas of our journalistic coverage as well as short-form articles about subjects of interest to the broader art audience.
Responsibilities:
Assign breaking news on a rolling basis throughout the day
Assign news feature stories each month
Edit appx. 2-5 stories per day, depending on length and difficulty
Write headlines, subheads, input SEO tags and categories for articles
Manage the workflow and assignments for two staff writers
Have weekly story idea meetings with two staff writers, as well as two weekly editor meetings and a staff meeting
Occasionally work with freelance writers to develop pitches; edit their copy, source and crop photos
Coordinate with occasional full-time freelance teams of writers to assign and edit their copy; oversee and guide the work of freelance editors in those same periods
Workshop headlines with other editors
Collaborate with Artnet's legal team for handling legally sensitive stories when required
Requirements
Proven track record of editing experience in a web news or editorial environment
Familiarity with the art world, art history, and the art market
A demonstrated ability to write expertly about art and culture, the art market, and the personalities driving it
Ability to manage workflow processes to ensure publishing to tight deadlines
A good network of sources and contacts
Proven track record in working with writers to shepherd and develop feature-length stories from pitch to publication
Collegial demeanor and ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with team of fellow world-class journalists
Candidates should ideally be based in London
