Arts and Culture Journalist

New Posted 3 November 2023 | Portland, Oregon | Willamette Week

Do you want to discover the next Amine, Elliott Smith or Sleater-Kinney? Can you pedal in a naked bike ride until 3 am and live to tell about it—the next day? Do you have strong opinions on what separates a great bowl of pho from a merely good one? Do you see every weed shop, mosh pit and bartender as a potential story? Then Willamette Week wants to meet you. The locally-owned, Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper and media company is seeking to expand its arts and culture staff, and is looking for a journalist with reporting and editing experience to join the team. We’re looking for a candidate who can be an arbiter of what’s next in the city—able to identify a breakout band or steer readers toward a side-street gumbo window that’s worth seeking out. Do you have a track record of exposing what’s fraudulent and overrated as well as celebrating what undiscovered? Can you manage a small team under big pressure? We want to meet you. Come from a background that’s underrepresented in journalism? That’s even better. Send a resume and three clips to amesh@wweek.com.
