Washingtonian is an award-winning, 55-year-old regional magazine working across platforms to cover news, culture, personalities, and life in the DC area. The assistant editor job is a ground-floor position, a job various journalists have used over the years to launch diverse careers following passions that range from from political reporting to lifestyle journalism. We're looking for someone who can do a bit of everything: Write about how Washington works, in both quick-hit daily form and longer-gestating feature style; work with editors to oversee our editorial fellowship and fact-checking program; dream up and manage special projects as the magazine reacts to a fast-changing city and an even faster-changing media environment. Ideal candidates should be able to work fast and carefully on deadline; be willing to pitch and take ownership of their own ideas; be relentlessly curious about both the hometown and company-town aspects of one of the country's most diverse regions. We'd also like it if you were a lot of fun.
