We are looking for a Newsletter Editor to join our award-winning social media team. In this role, you will work closely with the Audience Development and Editorial teams to write, edit, and produce Atlas Obscura’s newsletters, which reach hundreds of thousands of readers per day.
As the Newsletter Editor, you’ll be on the front lines, packaging our stories, places, and foods to engage our audiences directly in their inboxes across multiple different newsletter offerings, as well as managing partnerships with external publishers to grow our newsletter ecosystem. You’ll work closely with our Editorial and Sales teams on day-to-day and long-term projects, so attention to detail, organization, and flexibility will be essential to your success. Responsibilities
Write, produce, and edit Editorial newsletters, including the Daily Newsletter, Place of the Week Newsletter, Gastro Newsletter, and Weekly Newsletter products
Develop and manage relationships with other organizations and brands for partnerships and newsletter sweepstakes opportunities
Create and maintain best practices for audience retention and acquisition, including welcomeflow, automation, list hygiene, and more
Communicate newsletter performance insights to Editorial and Product teams on a monthly and quarterly basis
Work with our Audience Development team to develop a robust newsletter strategy to grow traffic and subscribers
Maintain the newsletter content calendar with respect to other Editorial and company-wide initiatives
Write and test compelling subject lines
A/B test new designs, features, and strategies
Managing Brand Partnerships campaigns in our newsletter ecosystem, from inclusions to dedicated newsletters, as well as establishing best practices for placement
Desired Qualifications
At least 3 to 5 years managing newsletter products in digital media or related fields
Professional writing or editing experience
Experience with email clients like Mailchimp or another email service provider
Entrepreneurial instincts, a hands-on attitude, a healthy sense of humor, and a passion for Atlas Obscura’s mission of finding and reporting on the world’s most wondrous and hidden places
Bonus Skills
Experience at a travel publication
Experience using photo editing tools
Experience using data to inform decision making
Experience in copy editing and/or social media
Annual salary of $70,000-$72,000 USD commensurate with experience and compensation includes equity.
