Mediahuis, Ireland's leading print and digital media publisher, is seeking to hire an audience engagement editor to work within a digital ‘hub’ with other journalists, managing and promoting online content for our local audiences on Independent.ie.
Since mid-2021, Mediahuis Ireland has seen its local news digital project grow and flourish, with the work of our regional newsrooms captivating, entertaining and informing the online audience in ever-growing numbers. The success of the project has been recognised nationally and globally, winning the 2022 Innovation Award from Local Ireland, the 2022 Digital Innovation Award at the NewsBrands Ireland Journalism Awards and, most recently, the Best Innovation in Newsroom Transformation (Regional Brands) award at the International News Media Association (INMA) Global Media Awards.
Mediahuis Ireland wants to build on this success and is seeking a creative, energetic, and collaborative audience engagement editor to help grow and diversify our audience.
Role Purpose
The audience engagement editor will be part of a versatile, data-driven team that works with journalists across the newsroom. Your work will focus on increasing the reach and impact of our award-winning journalism.
As an integral member of the editorial team, the audience engagement editor will work within a digital ‘hub’, managing and promoting local online content.
To be successful in this role, you will have excellent news judgement, strong writing skills and the ability to write, edit and post breaking news in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with colleagues within the digital ‘hub’, collaborate remotely with editorial teams in several local newsrooms, and liaise with the independent.ie team when necessary.
Experience & Qualifications
An excellent working knowledge of social media and Irish libel law is required.
Practical experience working as a journalist is required. Experience working in a digital media environment would be an advantage.
The successful candidate should be self-starting and show initiative, be motivated and capable of operating without supervision, and have flexibility/willingness to adapt.
Writing and copy editing
Comfortable working on digital deadlines in a 24/7 news cycle where speed and accuracy are crucial.
Ability to multi-task and work across different platforms and channels.
Excellent news judgement.
Ability to work both as part of a team and on own initiative.
We anticipate this will be a full time position however we are open to receiving applications from candidates who would like to be considered on a part time basis.
