About the Role

Would you like to work in an office with a sea view? Geraldton, famed for its surfing and windsurfing, is also the gateway to one of the world's greatest displays of spring wild flowers. Four hours north of Perth, it's a rapidly-growing regional hub for the expanding mining industry, the agriculture of the Midwest and the cray-fishing industry. It's a region rich in both news stories and characters.

As the Reporter, News for Geraldton you will create news content across all platforms to engage local and national audiences for a 12 month period.

Under the direction of the Editor, ABC Mid West & Wheatbelt, in this key role you will:

Break original, agenda setting news and current affairs for multiple platforms.
Present news bulletins, Q&A’s, interviews and packages across all platforms.
Contribute to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences.
Identify and develop local content that can be shared with other content teams in and across the ABC on multiple platforms.

About You

With significant understanding of the issues that affect and interest the local audience and proficient editorial skills including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise reliable judgement, you will also bring:

The ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with people from a range of diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated understanding and passion to source and create authentic content which represents the broad diversity of the Australian community.
Tertiary qualifications in journalism or demonstrated significant equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
