About The Role

Central Victoria, your patch, covers the hobby farmers, gourmet producers and farmers fighting to farm in the Macedon Ranges to wool, wheat, camel milk, micro greens and apples all the way up to Echuca on the mighty Murray River. It is a diverse and interesting patch, and we want you to get to know it and share the stories from it.
ABC Regional & Local is looking for a motivated, multi-skilled Rural Reporter in based Bendigo until July 2024.
Reporting To The Editor, You Will Be Responsible For
Creating engaging rural and primary industry news and features across multiple platforms for a diverse local and national audience.
Preparing and presenting stories for the Rural Report and Country Hour, plus other key programs including ABC’s 7pm bulletin and News Channel.
Contributing new ideas to increase audience reach and engagement.
About You
Not afraid to ask questions, explore the region, look for stories where others haven’t, jump in the work car and drive, and contribute to the news team on site in Bendigo as well as working with the broader Rural Reporter team and the Country Hour Executive Producer. You must be able to thrive on quick turn arounds and have the ability to work across all platforms to take your original stories to the widest audience. You are a positive and committed team member.
You Will Be Able To Demonstrate That You Have
Accomplished editorial skills and a love of breaking news.
A strong understanding of the issues facing the agricultural and primary industries and how they affect the community.
A creative approach to story construction and delivery.
Experience in live presentation and broadcast.
A passion and curiosity to source and create authentic stories which represent the broad diversity of the Australian community.
The ability to travel to remote locations when required.
