About the Role

From mangos and bananas to mining and commercial fishing, this role will see you reporting on a diverse range of stories across Western Australia’s north west. You will be based in the coastal community of Carnarvon, which is often referred to as the “food bowl” of Western Australia. You will have not one, but TWO world heritage areas to explore – Shark Bay World Heritage area to the south and the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area to the north. You can spend your weekends enjoying world class fishing, boating and diving, or hiking through rugged natural landscapes.

We are looking for a talented Reporter to help our small, dedicated team to cover this area, to report on its diverse peoples, its cultures, businesses, lifestyles, quirks and customs; to tell the region’s unique stories to the state, the nation and the world. You will work closely with your colleague in the Carnarvon bureau as well the rest of the ABC Pilbara team based in Karratha.

The role will involve:

Creating rural and primary industry content for multiple platforms for local and national audiences.
Preparing and presenting content for the Rural Report and Country Hour.
Collaborating with colleagues, identifying and developing local rural and primary industry content that can be shared with other content teams across the ABC on multiple platforms.

About You

You are resourceful and have the ability to work independently. With your demonstrated skills and experience in journalism or Agriculture, you have a passion to source and create authentic content which represents the broad diversity of the Australian community.   You have a creative approach to content construction and delivery, and accomplished experience in live presentation and broadcast.

You will also have;

A strong understanding of rural and regional issues that affect and interest the local audience.
A demonstrated and ongoing interest and passion in finding and telling stories that reflect Australia’s diversity.
A current and valid driver’s licence.
Willingness and flexibility to travel to remote locations.
