The Baltimore Business Journal is looking for a driven and innovative Research Editor to oversee the research operation that's at the heart of our news operation.

The Research Editor manages our database to ensure the accuracy, breadth, depth, quality and utility of all weekly industry/Top 25 and other data/research produced by the BBJ. The Research Editor is an integral part of our editorial team, editing and reporting on special publications and our weekly print and daily digital products.
Skills & Experience

Minimum of 1-2 years journalism experience in print or online
Familiarity with AP Style
Knowledge of basic financial concepts
Creative planning skills
Expert and sourcing and finding information on the internet
Fierce attention to detail and ability to stay on schedule
Ability to learn new computer systems easily
Must have MS Office Products experience including Web Based conference tools required (ex: Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.)
Skilled at data analysis and interpretation
Solid news judgment
Experience with management of editorial projects
Stickler for detail

Job Responsibilities

• Produce our weekly Top 25 Lists and manage and update the data base that fuels our research efforts.

• Meet regularly to plan and execute weekly print/digital list features — also called list stories, list extras, etc. — in conjunction with other editors and reporters. Use creative storytelling to bring lists and data to life with a focus on people and visual presentation in both print and digital.

• Lead special projects and publications, such as Best Places to Work, Fast 50 and Best Places to Work. Work with editorial team to suggest new special projects.

• Produce at least four cover/centerpiece packages a year, such as Public Companies, Private Companies, Wealthiest ZIP codes, etc.

• Integrate data-driven news into our regular news coverage, suggesting digital and print stories tied to research, reports and database releases. Produce at least one data-driven story a week. Be an advocate for increasing the use of data throughout both newsrooms.
