The Bangor Daily News, an innovative, award-winning and family-owned digital media company, has an immediate opening for an ambitious reporter covering Maine politics. We’re looking for a fast-moving journalist to break stories, explain why they matter and hold powerful people to account. The position is part of a team dedicated to producing direct, honest, comprehensive and compelling reporting about Maine politics and policy. If you’re the right person for this challenge, this is how we would describe you: You want to be the go-to person for news in a competitive beat of state and national interest. You can explain the importance of a story, and how it serves the audience. You have a sophisticated understanding of politics. You have a track record of landing important scoops in a fast-paced environment and figuring out what goes on behind closed doors. You know that good journalism depends on good sources, so you pride yourself on steadily growing your network to get information that no one else has. You are a savvy digital news consumer comfortable presenting information in different formats — from straight-up news stories to analyses and explainers. Data and multimedia skills are a plus. You’d be joining a large, and growing, statewide news organization in its fourth generation of local ownership. We believe that there’s a bright future for newsrooms that invest in good journalism and put their audiences first. This role is a key part of that strategy.
