We are looking for an Industry Editor to join our RAIL team in Peterborough.
Our Team:
RAIL is the UK’s leading publisher and content provider for and about the UK railway industry. Delivered across a fortnightly magazine, online news and analysis, a range of events and a series of industry reports through the RAIL REVIEW product.
The Main Focus of the Role:
This role leads the generation and curation of industry/market features, insight/analysis and interviews primarily for a B2B industry audience. Alongside, the role supports news and day-to-day editorial activity across all platforms including newsletters and events.
The Industry Editor works closely with the Editor and News Editor in shaping RAIL’s content output and how this successfully competes for target audience loyalty. The role also works closely with the Commercial and Events teams to enable the creation and delivery of content-led events, supplements and other activity.
Success in this role will come from insightful delivery of high performing content which generates growth of a known audience of rail industry professionals. The Industry Editor will also contribute to an open and collaborative culture, engaging in a broader ideas-sharing platform to maximise editorial and commercial opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with the Features Editor, News Editor and Editor to plan content for the magazine.
Write features, news insight and analysis content for all platforms (print and digital) to a high standard
Commission content, giving clear briefs to ensure contributors meet the required standards
Manage and oversee the creation of Rail Review Journal content and commission articles
Source appropriate images and graphics to accompany all written content and maintain relationships with photographers to ensure we have access to the best material
Use industry insight to contribute to the ‘News list’ of current stories on our radar and to assist the team in making decisions about key content
Proofread magazine content
Be proactive about finding and creating cover-worthy content that will be RAIL’s key selling points each issue
Attend internal and external events and meetings where required to gather news, build contacts and increase the team’s understanding of the rail sector and its needs
Upload print content to the membership and brand websites, promoting via social media and other channels to drive sessions traffic
Act as the social media lead for external comms and content (LinkedIn and Twitter)
Chair webinars and podcasts as required
Contribute to discussions about events content and assist in sourcing speakers
Attend Rail Review Editorial Board meetings to gain insight and understanding of members’ needs and editorial requirements
What You'll Bring:
Deep understanding of the rail industry and associated markets. Known/active within the market, with ability to connect with and influence key figures and organisations
Track record of maximising cross channel content performance
High level of attention to detail
Strong organisation and interpersonal skills, both internally and externally from the business
Determination to write the most compelling content
