As a commissioner for Drama you would be responsible for your own creative pipeline; generating and developing creative ideas; and ensuring content is successfully delivered. Working closely with the Director of Drama, within a close knit team of commissioners and with the channels and iPlayer team you will commission a full range of innovative and distinctive programmes, based on a sophisticated analysis of target audience need across all platforms. The Commissioner provides creative leadership to the development process, encouraging risk-taking and innovation whilst maintaining expertise to identify trends and opportunities for outstanding content. You’ll balance your editorial nous with ensuring programmes are compliant and that the slate you are accountable for is delivered successfully, and that commissions demonstrate value for money, quality and originality. You will also be expected to play a role in the commissioning and management of some of the BBC's continuing and returning drama series and you will play an instrumental part in ensuring that Drama delivers to its Nations & Regions commitments and that diversity and inclusion are at the core of all decisions. You will work with both BBC Studios and the Independent Sector, and the ability to commission across platforms will be critical in the way audiences experience what the BBC has to offer. This role is critical to the delivery of Drama’s strategy; and Drama is at the forefront of the BBC’s strategy to increase audiences and broaden appeal.
