Digital News and Streaming
At BBC Global Digital News & Streaming, (a team situated within BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC) we aim to help people understand the world around them, make informed choices, and take an active part in society and democracy. As we expand our footprint to meet increasing demand for our style of quality and impartial journalism and unscripted content in North America, we are seeking motivated, passionate, high performing individuals across a variety of skillsets to join our global team. Our primary locations are New York, Washington DC, and London; we are seeking candidates whose location allows them to work hybrid from any of these offices.

Job Purpose
We continue to consolidate and enhance our BBC website and apps for global audiences outside the UK, including in North America. You will be part of the team curating this new experience, including working on the home page and other key indexes.
Your responsibilities will be two-fold:
This role will require curating the site/app during your weekend shifts. That will include liaising with News and Sport colleagues around breaking news and key events. You will also be able to flex your creativity and editorial judgment, strategically resurfacing/repackaging content and crafting special modules around timely themes or great weekend reads.
You will also serve as the planning producer for the team. That will include tasks like maintaining the planning diary, preparing mock-ups and coordinating with editorial teams across the BBC to identify priority output and events we should showcase on the homepage and front of app.
The right candidate will demonstrate strong editorial judgment, a sharp eye for engaging headlines and visuals, and a keen sense of U.S. and global audience needs in the digital space.
You will have knowledge of digital publishing best practice and optimization tactics, including a desire to deepen your understanding of analytics and develop your ability to draw actionable, real-time insights to improve engagement.
*Please Note: This is a full time hybrid position. The anticipated work schedule is Wednesday to Sunday, 12-8pm. However, we can offer some flexibility with the Wed – Fri work hours.*
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
Main Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Be responsible for the effective promotion of news & factual content across the site and app, while rigorously adhering to our editorial values and guidelines.
Maintain the curation planning diary and help drive our curation planning, including for important priority events or tentpole initiatives
Work closely with editors across the BBC, including in our public service News and Sport divisions, as well as our colleagues in commercial, to ensure curation aligns on priorities and scheduling
Always think about the mix of stories, formats and audience needs at different times of the day and for your geographical zone
Make sure our headlines are sharp and our image choices work for small mobile screens
When running the site/app, stay on top of breaking news and ensure changes are made quickly
Be able to plan and write accurate and concise push alerts
Help drive new learnings and insights to elevate on-site experience and deepen user journeys through A/B testing, strategic experimentation, and performance analysis in consultation with your team leader and senior journalist on duty
Collaborate with colleagues to make sure we present the best of the BBC’s journalism for U.S. and global audiences
Prepare and share clear and informative handover notes as scheduled
Flag any site or CMS issues or bugs to colleagues in IT or product in a clear and timely manner
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Digital journalism experience, ideally in the news curation space
Be able to work well under pressure and to prioritize effectively, even when dealing with competing demands
Have a broad and deep interest in the news and factual content, and comfort with interpreting audience data to inform decisions
Collaborative self-starter, able to work with colleagues across editorial, commercial, audience development, analytics, and product.
Desire to understand, in detail, the consumer experience on BBC digital products
Enthusiasm for the BBC’s unique position as a trusted news brand and an understanding of the importance of impartiality - and what it means in practice
Evidence of having a positive impact on newsroom culture
Strong organizational, planning and time-management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and pivot as news demands
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
An ability to function in a matrixed organization and work effectively across teams and time zones.
Professional Experience
2+ years’ experience working in digital publishing in a news environment
Prior experience as homepage producer or editor, ideally in a news context.
Experience with push notifications, content optimization and A/B testing is also desired.
Strong attention to detail.

Compensation
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $65,000 to $80,000. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.This range is not inclusive of a competitive bonus, flexible, hybrid working schedule & benefits including but not limited to: 100% BBCS covered medical & dental insurance, vision, & 401k match.
