Are you passionate about coming up with original stories and attracting new audiences to the BBC? Are you determined to tell stories in new, creative ways across different platforms? Are you excited about the opportunities of working across TV and online and helping our stories reach radio audiences? If so, then this Journalist role is the job for you. BBC South East is focussed on representing communities across our region and you’ll help us deliver for our audiences wherever they are. You’ll be working across our TV and online team, helping to put together TV bulletins, planning next day and longer-term features and strands and working on website stories and digital videos. And you’ll be part of an ambitious, driven team who’ll be ready to start helping to tell stories across TV, online and radio from day one. You’ll be working on a range of output across TV and online. You’ll be researching, scripting, writing, editing and working with our team to tight deadlines. You’ll have a solid news judgement and will understand the importance of digital for telling stories and newsgathering. You’ll help us to book guests, fact-check stories and have an ability to look beyond the press release. You’ll help us with our ambition to reach the widest possible audience with our stories by ensuring they are told on all our platforms. You’ll be trained on our broadcast systems. You’ll be a champion for BBC News’ need for due impartiality and accuracy. The ideal candidate will be a conscientious self-starter who’ll add energy, ideas and a flair for story-telling. You’ll have previous experience as a journalist and will have first-class news judgement. You will have experience of working in news and be able to demonstrate a track record of developing your own stories. You’ll have a knowledge of using social media as both a broadcast medium to tell compelling stories and as a news-gathering tool. You’ll have worked in a busy newsroom and be ready to work across TV, online and radio. You’ll be able to work effectively as part of a team often to tight deadlines, and build trust and rapport with colleagues across BBC South East and beyond.
