The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.
This is a rare opportunity to join the small Breakfast TV Business team in Money and Work’s Salford team. We’re looking for a senior journalist bursting with creativity, high journalistic standards and a desire to produce the best business slots for the country’s most watched Breakfast show. Working in a small team you’ll be expected to come up with fresh ideas, bring business and economics to life for a morning audience and make them relatable. Breakfast has just moved to its new studio so we want someone who wants to use their graphic skills to bring out the best in the studio. It’s a fast moving and demanding role – but very rewarding.
Main Responsibilities
A senior journalist on the team is expected to work two different shifts – a next day planning shift fixing OBs, organising studio graphics, bidding and booking guests. You’ll deliver scripts, commission graphics, organise resources and find locations, provide presenters with briefing notes and leave the morning teams with a comprehensive handover. You’ll also be expected to work early mornings outputting with the presenter, producing on location or in the studio, reacting to breaking news and advising the main programme on those breaking stories. The SJ is also expected to plan and source material for short VTs or commission VTs as the programme requires. Reporting to the SJTM you are expected to work independently, but check in regularly and flag any issues to the SJTM. The SJ is the link between Money and Work and the Breakfast programme so you will keep Breakfast updated and liaise with them on story progress
