The Russian Service is one of the largest language services in the BBC World Service. It has a 24/7 multiplatform website and significant presence on social media and a large amount of video. Currently staff are located in London and other bureaus around the world.
The service’s output aims to make international news relevant to a Russian-speaking audience, and bring international perspectives to bear on developments in the region. It aims to report in a lively and engaging fashion, and interactivity, promotion of content on social media and social newsgathering form a large part of its activities across all platforms.
Main Responsibilities
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Journalist who will be based in the BBC Russian Riga bureau's Special Reporters team.
The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate proven experience of originating and implementing bold and original ideas and exercising sound judgement. You'll be an excellent writer and story-teller and serve as an on-the-day reporter whenever required. You'll collaborate with teams across the BBC in conducting investigations for a global audience. You'll understand and uphold the values of the BBC and strictly adhere to the operational procedures and editorial processes of both the BBC Russian Service and BBC Languages. You'll be ready to take part in podcаsts, collaborate with video teams, and work alongside text editors when required.
Are you the right candidate?
You'll need to demonstrate a high standard of editorial judgment, writing ability and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalism experience. You'll have excellent people skills, resilience, and ability to communicate effectively at different levels. First-class Russian language skills are essential with a good working knowledge of both written and spoken English. You'll show self-reliance and an ability to follow through and deliver with a strong awareness of health and safety and high risk issues, especially relating to investigative journalism.
