We’re looking for a Video Journalist to produce multimedia video and graphics with impact for BBC Wales News, delivering material for audiences in Wales and beyond, for one of the world’s largest, most-trusted and audience-focused news outlets.
We want an ambitious and creative journalist with sound editorial judgment and experience of undertaking and overseeing video production, including in breaking-news situations.
You should have an eye for detail, an instinct for visual flair and a keen sense of audience needs in the digital space, as well as an understanding of how search and social trends and audience data improve our journalism.
The role will be called upon to shoot, write, edit, and sub-edit digital and TV videos and graphics, generating ideas for coverage and helping set the daily agenda.
You will work on a range of exciting output, from digital video, daily and weekly TV programmes to iPlayer and linear commissions and more.
A full driving licence is required.
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, shoot, assemble, edit and deliver output for digital and linear outlets, to the highest professional standards – recognising the distinct requirements of different types of output in line with BBC News strategy.
Routinely self-shoots and edits complete packages.
Routinely fulfils duties unsupervised.
Strong record of originating and developing stories for news programmes.
Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
To undertake pre- and post-production and studio work, live and pre-recorded. Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
To liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
To tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
To produce engaging packages through a range of production skills.
Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
Willing and adept at passing on skills through training and mentoring.
At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.
Collaborate closely with colleagues across the newsroom to ensure we present the best of the BBC’s journalism from other teams.
Produce live content for digital, including live streaming.
Collaborate with linear and digital video and graphics producers to deliver on news’ strategic objectives.
