Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world, and leads the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.
We are looking for a resourceful and versatile journalist to join the Asian energy and commodities editing team. This is an opportunity to work on a diverse range of stories across oil, energy, metals & mining and agriculture, covering everything from markets to companies, government policy and climate.
At the heart of the role is an ability to produce clear and compelling stories that dispense with jargon and explain often complex issues to a non-specialist audience. On any given day, you may jump from a concise, authoritative report detailing moves in the price of gold to a fast-breaking M&A story -- or spend time crafting a longer-form piece on an aspect of the energy transition.
The right candidate will have a track record of achievement as an editor or reporter in business journalism. You'll also be someone who wants to experiment with storytelling formats - from graphics-led features, to video, audio and web-friendly explainers.
We are looking for a team player who is comfortable working with colleagues from multiple bureaus, connecting stories from all corners of the newsroom. You will need to use your experience and ideas to mentor reporters and shape some of our most important stories.
We'll trust you to:
Produce crisp and concise edits that resonate with a wide audience -- from our most sophisticated terminal users to our more casual online readers
Be innovative and think creatively about ways to make our content accessible to a diverse audience of business-savvy readers from short blasts to complex, ambitious enterprise
Make fast and critical judgement calls to identify the most important stories as well as gaps in coverage
Collaborate with colleagues across teams, bureaus and continents to break news and give a global perspective to our audience
Innovate with story formats while promoting diversity of thought and representation throughout our coverage and across our platforms
You'll need to have:
At least 5 recent years of experience in business journalism as a reporter or editor
Experience working in a real-time news environment
Experience collaborating and working with others to accomplish goals
Outstanding writing skills and the ability to craft concise, clean prose under deadline
Interest in energy, commodities and climate coverage
Proficiency in both spoken and written English
Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
Bachelor’s degree or degree-equivalent qualifications
