Bloomberg News is looking for a reporter to cover the media business out of New York. This is a large and dynamic beat that will focus on how the internet is changing the way we consume media and what that means for the businesses that have long dominated the field. You will write about how news organizations are responding to the rise of artificial intelligence, the collapsing market for TV advertising and the consolidation of once-mighty entertainment giants. You will also cover many of the world’s largest and most influential media companies, including the New York Times Company, Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global.
The reporter needs to be comfortable developing sources on a competitive beat that is bound to have lots of activity in the next year or two. We want someone who can break news about the latest big deal, write analysis of what the news means and develop a longer-term feature that puts readers inside the room for key decisions.
They will also need to be comfortable collaborating across teams; that includes working with reporters on the same team who write about movies, TV and video games, as well as reporters across tech and deals. You may team up with a Hollywood reporter in Los Angeles to write about streaming, a tech reporter in San Francisco to detail negotiations between AI companies and news organizations and a deal reporter on a merger.
Our team works a lot with Businessweek, live events, podcasting and the Bloomberg video team. There will be opportunities to moderate at the Screentime conference and contribute to newsletters (if not start your own).
YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:
Extensive reporting experience
Willingness to experiment with different forms of story telling including videos, podcasts and data visualization
Strong work ethic, ability to work steadily and calmly under pressure
Robust attention to detail
A collaborative team spirit and the drive to innovate and experiment
Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know that the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at:
