Join a team of dedicated reporters in a startup environment and help us become the publication of record covering the U.S. sports betting industry. Your focus will be the business and finance beat with an opportunity to branch into other areas as needed/desired.

Summary of duties: Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Business & Finance Reporter will be responsible for:

Covering quarterly earnings and investor presentations from key companies in the sports gambling space and broader casino industry.
Covering M&A news and rumors.
Conceiving and executing features, analysis/opinion, and breaking stories on your beat.
Cultivating and maintaining sources within the industry for purposes of informing/enhancing editorial coverage and to create opportunities to break news.
Collaborating with editors and fellow reporters.
Prioritizing and managing workload in a fast-paced news environment.
Working with our internal PR team to respond to external inquiries and make media appearances (podcasts, TV hits) as opportunities arise.
Adhering to style and reporting guidelines and ethical standards.
Collaborating and experimenting with Editorial Director to help conceive brand-building, audience-and-traffic-growing content ideas or initiatives.
Willing to backup or fill-in for colleagues on another beat, as needed.

Additional responsibilities and notes:

Position is fully remote (work from home); laptop to be furnished by the company.
Some light travel will involve attending a few key industry conferences each year.
Will be expected to help promote our content and brands to existing networks on social media, at industry conferences, elsewhere.

Requisite and preferred experience:

At least five years working as a writer/reporter/editor for an online publication.
Strong sourcing and reporting skills, especially in complex or opaque institutions.
Deep interest and knowledge about the U.S. sports betting industry and fundamentals of sports wagering.
The ability to explain complicated financial and legal topics clearly and compellingly to a broad audience.
Familiarity with Wordpress or similar content management system(s).
Team player who is receptive to constructive criticism and values the success of his/her colleagues.
Working knowledge and understanding of basic SEO principles.

Compensation and benefits:

$75,000 - $85,000 base salary
