Business Insider is hiring a Fellow to join our Owned & Operated Audience team in the UK to work on our homepage, notifications, and newsletters. This UK based fellow will start in January 2024.

The Role & Team:

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week.

As a Fellow on the O&O Audience team, you will be playing a key role in keeping our loyal audience engaged. You will primarily help with building newsletters, homepage curation and testing, and push notification sending. This role is pivotal in ensuring our O&O platforms are optimized, reaching our audience, and as engaging as possible.

The ideal candidate is an avid and eager writer, capable of delivering succinct copy. They're an independent worker, a self-starter with a focus on constant self-improvement, and have an interest in business news.

The role reports directly to the Editor, O&O Audience, in London.

Key Responsibilities:

Help with morning production of our newsletters: assist with building in our email service provider and our CMS, help with our LinkedIn newsletter, and assist with updates and writing.
Generate compelling headlines, conduct headline tests, and optimize our homepage with the most engaging headlines.
Send push notifications to our app, browser, and Apple News audience.
Assist in testing and reporting around increasing engagement and building routine for our most loyal audience.

The ideal candidate has:

Excellent news judgment
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multitask

Experience delivering succinct copy via newsletters or notifications
Ability to problem solve independently
Experience working with breaking news, editorial and journalism
Knowledge of business news
Experience with content management systems

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
Familiarity with digital and social media
The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
Proofreading and copyediting skills
A love of Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun

Salary

Fellows are paid £24,000 pro-rata
Fellows get 10 days annual leave during the 6-month period
This position starts in Jan 2024 and requires that you work full-time for six months.

Insider is a flexible workplace when it comes to remote work, but an important part of the fellowship is being a part of the newsroom in person for learning opportunities. Fellows are asked to come into our offices in London at least two days a week.
