The Role
Complex Networks is seeking a...Sports Video & Editorial Freelance Producer to join the editorial team in our New York City office location. We are looking for a creative jack-of-all-trades, with a strong background in writing, video, a deep knowledge sports media and the ability to make data driven creative decisions. This position will use data to inform creative decisions, build audiences across target platforms, and come up with and form a strategy around different initiatives relating to editorial and video. You will collaborate closely with the sports editorial team and sporadically with the social team.The ideal candidate is passionate about sports writing, video production, content analytics, and being a self-starter. Success in this role requires someone who can speak the technical language of sports writing and video production with the ability to use data to create new practices and formulate new ideas.
You Will
Help pitch editorial news stories & day-to-day ideas for the sports vertical that align with our voice.
Ideate long-term and short-term edit sports features.
Write both timely and evergreen features for the Complex Sports vertical.
Work with Complex Sports team to ideate multi-platform content (including video), ensuring a mix of evergreen, original, and timely content while staying up-to-date with the news cycle and any event/anniversary tentpoles.
Interview athletes and curate edit stories based on those interviews.
Assist with production of video shoots for the Complex Sports team whether in studio or in the field.
Ideate and support the creation of social-first ideas in partnership with editorial, production, and promo teams.
When applicable, step in to help edit and upload original videos.
Provide feedback and constructive criticism for videos.
Develop and create original real-time editorial content for Complex Sports audiences, identifying memes and trends at the forefront of virality.
Help maintain a positive and supportive culture for the Sports Team.
You Have
2-4 years of experience in sports writing
1-2 years of experience with video production
A deep understanding of the Complex Sports content, voice, and tone.
Proficiency in shooting and editing video content with CapCut and Premiere Pro
Interest in data around user engagement, viewership, and ability to iterate on success
Interest in part taking in social video shoots with talent, both in studio and at events
Positive, intuitive, proactive, and collaborative team player
Must be willing to be flexible with nights and weekends/holidays for coverage
Robust knowledge of current events + sports + trends on social media
Willing to be versatile across multiple platforms
Must be located in New York/New Jersey area
