Health Reporter

New Posted 10 August 2023 | Raleigh, NC | Capitol Broadcasting Company

The top station in an area consistently ranked one of the best places to live in the country is seeking a multimedia journalist with a passion for health reporting.

The reporter will report on all aspects of both physical and mental health. Coverage could include emerging trends, impactful new studies, treatment breakthroughs, disease prevention, mental health issues and treatment, racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare costs, use of AI in predictive medicine, the nursing shortage, and any number of other topics. The reporter will be responsible for pitching, shooting, writing, editing and fronting several television packages each week, along with researching and writing in depth digital stories on significant health issues.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and persistent reporter with innate curiosity, a desire to get to the heart of an issue, experience in health reporting, a passion for storytelling with a visual focus, and a penchant for breaking down complex subjects into digestible and compelling stories. We’re looking for a thoughtful reporter who is a great writer, excels in making and maintaining contacts, gets as excited about breaking news scoops as enterprise exclusives, wants to collaborate with other reporters and is dedicated to coverage of this important topic.

Requirements include 3-5 years of previous experience reporting in local television news, preferably on a health beat, and a four-year college degree.

This is a grant-funded position made possible by our partnership with Duke Health and UNC Health, and we anticipate offering the best candidate a three-year contract.

People come to WRAL-TV and they stay. Why? We're family. We have extraordinary expectations of each other and accept nothing short of excellence. WRAL is locally owned by Capitol Broadcasting Company, a community-oriented company that offers some of the best benefits in the business.
