With new and substantial grants, Capitol News Illinois is expanding its reporting and business operations. Capitol News Illinois is a nonprofit and nonpartisan news organization that covers state government from in Springfield, Illinois. Among the additions to the CNI reporting team will be a full-time print reporter. This reporting position will further bolster CNI’s commitment to enterprising, investigative and projects reporting. The position’s coverage area emphasis will be determined by the best fit for the right candidate. The reporter may be based outside of Springfield. Capitol News Illinois coverage is published in more than 460 daily and nondaily newspapers statewide with a combined circulation of more than 2 million. We produce print and digital content as well as the Capitol Cast podcast, and in 2023 broadcast journalism operations will be added. You will join talented and experienced journalists at the Capitol who are committed to our mission of providing credible and unbiased coverage of state government that helps address a shrinking press corps at the Statehouse. Prior experience of covering Illinois state government is preferred but not required.
