Safeguard magazine and Safeguard Update newsletter are New Zealand’s leading publications on workplace health, safety and wellbeing. We aim to bring information, innovation and inspiration to the broad range of people with responsibility for organisational health & safety. Safeguard is owned by Thomson Reuters. The Safeguard team also organises New Zealand’s leading conferences on health & safety, as well as the annual New Zealand Workplace Health & Safety Awards.
You will work alongside our Editor to bring each edition of Safeguard magazine and newsletter from idea phase through to publication. Hours are regular, flexible, and equivalent to about 0.2 to 0.3 full-time equivalent, working from home. Auckland-based strongly preferred as our small editorial and events team finds we work best when we can get together in person every few weeks.
About the role
In this opportunity as a Casual Journalist, you will:
Identify and write news stories each fortnight for the newsletter and feature stories for the magazine, which is published every second month.
Work as a combo of reporter and feature writer: interviewing subject matter experts, injured workers, interpreting research and legal decisions. Behind the technical jargon, it’s really all about people and their work.
About You
You’re a fit for the role of a Casual Journalist if your background includes:
Willingness to use Thomson Reuters’ online editorial publishing and other systems.
An experienced freelancer willing to become a casual employee for this role.
