Compensation Range: $43 - 50 per hour
We're seeking a talented Copyeditor to join our client's team and help them maintain the highest standards in a variety of their documents and communications.
In this role, you will help ensure the editorial quality, consistency, accuracy and branding of our client's communications. You will edit and proofread written communications prior to publication and dissemination to ensure these materials are free from typographical errors, editorially consistent, accurately reflect Associated Press and brand style, and are formatted consistently. The ideal candidate is a hands-on self-starter and must be able to manage a workload that can be fast-paced with multiple assignments and deadlines.
This is a 6-month hybrid contract role in which you will work remotely Monday/Friday and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will work from our client's DC office.
Responsibilities:
Copyedit and proofread a wide variety of written materials, including emails, marketing materials, meeting agendas, press releases, forms, letters and addresses, brochures, fliers, house ads, reports, newsletters, web page content, PowerPoint presentations, manuals, surveys, meeting badges and book-length documents.
Ensure the accuracy of spelling and grammar.
Ensure consistency with the ADEA Style Guide and other protocols (e.g., Associated Press Stylebook).
Edit content for clarity, query unclear text.
Ensure accuracy by performing fact checks.
Verify that editorial, formatting and other changes have been made correctly.
Format documents in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Manage multiple assignments with differing deadlines, some scheduled and some ad-hoc.
Possesses a thorough knowledge of Associated Press Stylebook and becomes familiar with brand's style guide and school naming protocol.
Communicate editorial queries effectively and diplomatically.
Qualifications:Experience level: Experienced
Minimum 7 years of experience
A bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field with at least five years of relevant work experience is required.
Be detail-oriented.
Have excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, and style.
Have formatting skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Have a solid familiarity with AP Style.
Have organizational and time management skills.
Work independently and productively but also as part of a team and with staff in other divisions. Must be able to work effectively with various personalities.
Preferred but not required:
Advanced training in copyediting (e.g., certificate).
