Channel 4 News is looking for an experienced producer to work on the award-winning news output. They will produce exciting, high quality and distinctive news and digital coverage using sophisticated production and scripting skills. Working with reporters and correspondents they will provide original and agenda setting journalism. Producers work both in the newsroom and in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

Work across all output as directed, including the 7pm programme and multimedia digital output
Produce reporters and correspondents for coverage that’s on-the-day as well as planned events and films
Write scripts, lead-ins, select pictures, commission graphics, and carry out research to produce packages
Originate fresh angles on stories to keep Channel 4 News coverage journalistically distinctive
Generate exciting ideas that result in original stories on television and digital platforms
Find and suggest diverse contributors for reports and guests to be interviewed live on-air
Undertake work on location anywhere in the UK to produce packages, and work on OBs
Work as Chief Sub Words of Assistant Progamme Editor Video as directed and if necessary
Occasionally work on programme output, the newsdesk and alongside other teams if necessary
Use AVID or similar technology system to ingest material in the field and in the newsroom
Use desktop editing to log, cut, shot-list, trim feeds and rushes
Use AVID Newscutter and MediaCentral or relevant technology system to edit packaged reports
Deliver excellent content for our digital output
Ensure stories are accurate and fully comply with the law or relevant Ofcom regulations and refer up for sign-off
Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field
Occasional work with independent reporters or production companies
Liaise with the digital team and press team
Deal professionally with members of the public and our on-air contributors

Excellent writing ability
Understanding of the Channel 4 News agenda and its young and diverse audience
Have read and understand the ITN Compliance Manual
Ability to work to a tight deadline
Ability to work autonomously and under own initiative
Experience of awkward legal situations and an understanding of ITN Legal Compliance procedures
Good interpersonal skills. A team player with the ability to manage a group of people
Calm under pressure, able to adapt and be flexible in all tasks
Play an authoritative role in team editorial meetings, presenting ideas in a persuasive manner
Act with responsibility on location and in the office to comply with ITN Health and Safety Policies
