Global B2B regulatory news service Chemical Watch is looking for an ambitious news journalist with a strong interest in reporting on policy and regulatory developments to join our 21-strong editorial team. Chemical Watch reports on the steps being taken by governments, businesses, and NGOs around the world to improve the safe management of chemicals – a goal vital to human health and the environment. Reporting to our Washington DC-based senior editor, the successful candidate will split their time between reporting on regulatory developments among emerging markets in Latin America and supporting the three-strong North America desk with additional reporting on regulatory developments in the US and Canada. Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills would be a distinct advantage. Experience reporting on a relevant field such as science, environmental regulation, policy development, public health, or the chemical industry would also be very welcome. Proven experience breaking news stories in a professional newsroom environment is essential, as is the confidence to establish excellent contacts with regulatory authorities, industry bodies and NGOs concerned with the safe management of chemicals in relevant jurisdictions. The successful candidate must have excellent written English, the confidence to tackle sometimes highly technical subjects and the drive to develop an understanding of the regulatory agenda. While the primary task will be to research and write news stories, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to write longer feature articles, contribute to podcasts, and attend key industry events.
