Deputy Sr. Content Editor

The Chicago Tribune is seeking an early morning editor/reporter for the emerging news desk. The role includes identifying overnight/early morning news developments, including crime, commuting issues, weather and lighter fare, and working with the early morning reporter to write and edit stories to post online. As a deputy senior content editor, the position also entails monitoring AP wire and social platforms for anything breaking that has a local angle, attending the 8:30 a.m. emerging news desk meeting and helping to develop the desk's page one offerings. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, a team player, possess strong news judgment, write cleanly, multi-task and maintain a commitment to accuracy while working quickly. The role also entails keeping an eye on what is driving audience interest and best SEO and headline practices. Experience covering police and criminal justice is a plus.
