The Chicago Tribune is hiring a general assignment reporter with a focus on the food and drink industries. The position will be rooted in food journalism in the Chicago area and the Midwest, with an emphasis on breaking food-related news, restaurant and dining industry trends, as well as useful dining guides and lists. What you will do:

Applicants will delve into the region’s cultures, industries and innovations within the food and drink realm

The Tribune’s Food team aims to cover every pocket of the city and suburbs, searching for untold stories and under-represented communities

As part of the Food team, this reporter will also work on team projects such as the annual Tribune Food Awards, and with the Tribune’s business, arts and emerging news desks

What you will bring:

Candidates should be able to develop a beat, including everything from source building to enterprise coverage

An ability to use both social media and on-the-ground reporting to develop ideas and monitor for news developments is highly encouraged

Familiarity with Chicago or food journalism is encouraged, but not required

To apply, submit a cover letter, resume and links to five clips that show your skills and range.
