Job Summary

Law Week Colorado is seeking an experienced writer with an interest in law, initiative, and flexibility. Founded in 2002, Law Week is an award-winning and independent legal news outlet. Law Week writers display the initiative to seek out and cover legal topics in an unbiased manner. As a part of a small newsroom, this individual would need to be flexible and willing to jump in to support other teammates as needed. In this role, you will conduct interviewing and writing tasks, and assignments as needed in accordance with the minimum weekly frequency noted below.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct interviews, complete research and write at least three articles per week
Complete assigned feature pieces and cover "breaking news" for Law Week Colorado
Cover the legislative session from January to May annually (may include on-site reporting)
Develop your own leads and story ideas
Fact check all writing you own and adhered to Law Week's editorial standards
Perform copyedits as needed.
Assist in production of multimedia pieces such as podcasts and videos
Provide "calendaring" as assigned for Law Week's sister product State Bill Colorado (may require working past 5 MT one day per week)
Complete any other administrative or editorial duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong customer service and subscription management skills
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Strong writing skills
Ability to use various tones and formats to present information to readers
Excellent technical skills, such as data entry and management
Excellent analytical and research abilities
Proven ability to work with a team and independently
Excellent time management skills
Familiarity with accessibility considerations
Able to perform and comfortable working in remote environment

Minimum Requirements:

2-5 years of journalism experience
1-2 years experience using WordPress
Located in Denver and able to report on site as needed

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000 annually. Dependent on relevant experience, knowledge, and performance
