Local Government Reporter

CityView Media, an online news service in Fayetteville, N.C., seeks a news reporter who will cover local government and other public institutions, including education, utilities and other agencies supported by tax revenue. Regular coverage of meetings by governing boards such as the City Council and advance stories on their agendas are included. Must be able to develop good sources in local government and seek out stories that reveal and explain trends and dig into issues that give an overview of how government is functioning and what that means for the community and taxpayers. The fundamental purpose of the beat is holding public officials accountable for the decisions they make and finding the stories that the officials might prefer not be told. Familiarity with North Carolina government is important. This is a full-time position with a benefits package including health insurance, life insurance, paid time off and 401k contributions.
