The Communications team sits within Marketing and Communications at the GBH Educational Foundation. The team manages the public relations and external communications functions that help in raising awareness and enhancing the reputation of the Foundation.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Communications and Media Relations Coordinator contributes to the implementation of media relations activities and integrated communications campaigns carried out by the GBH Communications Department in support of programs, projects and initiatives produced, presented and/or supported by GBH. This includes, but is not limited to key foundation initiatives, programming, digital and events.
The successful candidate will be one who is up to the challenge of sharing the GBH story in the most compelling ways possible. A creative thinker who is passionate about news and communications, one who can identify media trends and captivating story ideas. This individual should be innovative, and results-oriented, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a positive attitude. RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in execution of Communications and Media Relations projects, campaigns and activities.
Compile and distribute daily media clips and ensure proper archives are maintained.
Oversee the maintenance of the department’s media contact lists, press room, and other key departmental organizational documents.
Support the production, review and distribution of materials.
Draft press releases and briefing sheets
Deliver concise and informative reporting on press activities, coverage secured, and current opportunities.
Provide research, proofreading and other project-specific activities.
SKILL SET
Excellent communication skills, exceptionally written, are essential.
Strong candidates will possess strong organizational, computer, and interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the ability to foster productive relationships with colleagues, balanced with an ability to be self-directed and work independently.
Must be a thorough, detail-oriented individual and very effective in managing multiple projects, responding to various requests, and prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
Candidate must be willing to handle administrative tasks, be flexible, and work within a team-oriented environment to support the overall goals for the department and GBH.
Familiarity with Boston and New England media important. Candidates should have a keen interest in current events and a passion for media relations
Superior proofreading skills
Interest in promotion and marketing a plus.
A high degree of energy, curiosity and a desire to learn are fundamental attributes of the right candidate.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media.. Some experience with media relations software programs (e.g., Cision or Muckrack) a plus.
The ability to accept and incorporate feedback
Discretion in handling confidential information.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism or equivalent work experience required. 1+ years of relevant experience, including internship experience required.
