We’ve helped establish the Colorado Option, the Colorado Preschool Program, Child Health Plan Plus, the Great Teachers and Leaders Law, the new state Department of Early Childhood, and numerous other laws and programs.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Children’s Campaign seeks a creative and skilled Communications Manager to join our team. The Communications Manager's work will focus on telling the story of the Children’s Campaign and helping Coloradans understand and act on the issues that are affecting kids and families in our state. The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and managing content and campaigns that advance our mission, engage and expand our audience, and support our organization’s commitment to equity. The Communications Manager works collaboratively with Children’s Campaign team members to amplify and ensure the quality of research, policy, development, and advocacy projects. The Communications Manager is a talented writer and editor who uses innovative tools and strategies to convey what is most important about data, research, and policies to target audiences. This position reports to the Communications Director.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
This role will be responsible for a series of tasks that include, but are not limited to, the following:
Support the Communications Director in ensuring the Children’s Campaign’s communications are strategic, innovative, equitable, and effective.
Develop and execute impactful communications campaigns that tell the story of the Children’s Campaign, support its policy goals, and engage and expand its audiences.
Identify opportunities to advance the Children’s Campaign’s brand, work, and policy goals, including via the website, social media, SMS campaigns, and email.
Maintain, update, and implement organizational guides for style, branding and design, and equity in communications, in coordination with the Communications Director.
Support the Children’s Campaign team in communicating effectively with the media, partner organizations, legislators, and other audiences.
Apply an equity lens to the development of processes, materials, messages, and approaches to framing issues
Write and edit public-facing materials such as press releases, blog posts, newsletter articles, webpages, and content for the annual report.
Set the strategy for and manage the creation and publication of social media content, in coordination with an external contractor and the Communications Director.
Create social media toolkits for publications and advocacy efforts.
Manage or support the content and production of email updates and newsletters.
Contribute to the development of multimedia communications, including photos, The West Steps podcast, and videos.
Create simple designed documents using Google Docs, Canva, or Adobe Suite.
Support the Development Team in writing, editing, and developing content for grants, events, and other projects.
Support the Policy, Advocacy, and Research Teams in writing and editing fact sheets, testimony, talking points, briefs, and other products, including materials that support the needs of coalitions.
Support the production of the annual KIDS COUNT in Colorado! project and other research publications and materials, including editing written deliverables.
Support the management of the organization’s communications calendar.
Track and analyze performance of communications efforts.
Effectively manage projects from conception to completion.
Coordinate with external contractors as necessary.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience and special skills.
At least 3-5 years experience in communications, journalism, or a related discipline.
Excellent writing and editing skills
Curiosity and the ability to learn about and engage with issues in each of the Children’s Campaign’s strategic focus area
Comfort and experience in communicating about complex policies, data, and/or social issues to a range of audiences
Ability to apply an equity lens to processes, materials, messages, and issue framing
Ability to convey the real-world impact of policy issues on kids and families
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and digital communications tools such as WordPress, EveryAction, and Canva
Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work collaboratively across departments
Ability to give and receive feedback
Basic graphic design skills
Experience working with an organizational style guide
WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION IS PROVIDING
Expected hiring range of $62,000 - $74,000 based on experience.
